Description

This evergreen tree grows in well drained soils in full sun to part shade. American Holly is loved for the thick, glossy, spined foliage and bright red berries on pollinated female trees. Birds relish the berries in winter. Ilex opaca hosts 44 species of butterflies and moths including Polyphemus and Pawpaw Sphinx.
