Description

BIRD’S FOOT VIOLET

The deeply dissected foliage resembling a bird’s foot inspires the name of this unusual and beautiful native violet. Growing best in dry, poor soils, Viola pedata spreads slowly by self seeding. The flowers are often bicolor, featuring shades of purple and light blue. They sometimes rebloom in fall. Larval host to Fritillary butterflies, native bees and butterflies also seek out the nectar.
