Description
JACK IN THE PULPIT
This iconic woodland spring wildflower likes moist rich soil conditions. The unusual flower consists of a flowering spadix, Jack, shielded by a sheath, the pulpit. The red streaked glossy foliage has a tropical look but is very much native to our forest understories. Non fruiting plants may die back in summer heat, and berries on mature female plants are revealed in summer.
