This large native tree needs full sun and prefers moist conditions but tolerates a range of soils. Glossy star shaped foliage puts on a brilliant show of fall color. The showy, spiky seed pods are excellent bird and wildlife food. Sweetgum provides shelter and nesting sites for birds as well as hosting 36 species of butterflies and moths.
